Gas system: what is it and what types of gases do exist?

Gas systems are installed on vehicles with the aim to reduce pollution and fuel costs.

We generally intend that vehicle we want to convert to gas has original petrol fuel supply.

What is a BRC system?

BRC system is substantially a modification one makes to a petrol car to reduce pollution and fuel costs.

What does it mean in detail?

Authorised garages install on a petrol car the most suitable gas conversion system for it.

BRC gas system includes many main components, according to the kind of gas:

-       CNG: seamless double-pressure tested gas cylinders, shut-off valve for stopping gas and acting as a vent in case of overpressure, reducer bringing gas pressure to suitable operating levels;

-       LPG: cylindrical or toroidal tank, valve for refuelling and 80% filling limitation, reducer for evaporating LPG.

As you can see, just some little differences between BRC LPG systems and BRC CNG systems.

The main difference concerns gas tanks, as in case of LPG it can be installed into the spare wheel compartment keeping boot space free.

Instead for CNG cylinders, the situation is different, as gas is subjected to a very high pressure (up to 200 bar) and must be stored in a tank thicker than the LPG one.

What types of gases do exist?

As said before, two types of BRC gas systems are available, for conversion to CNG and LPG.

What is the main difference between these two gases?

CNG is fully of natural origin, meaning that it is available in large quantities in nature.

Instead LPG is an oil refined product.

Despite of coming from crude oil, LPG has a very low impact on the environment, releasing 10% less CO2  after combustion, compared with petrol.

Also, LPG releases 55% NOx less and 8% particulate dust less than petrol.

CNG can be considered the lowest environmental impact fuel.

It releases less CO2 compared with petrol systems and very low CO (carbon monoxide).hydrocarbons and sulphur dioxide levels.

CNG is also free from particulate dust (PM10 e PM2,5), critical factor in big cities.

In conclusion

Installing a BRC gas system you can save a lot of money thanks to the fuel low costs.

Even more than that, we have to highlight the environmental aspect.

Using the two fuels mentioned instead of petrol or diesel, we can help to reduce pollution.

Installing a BRC gas system, you can help to improve big cities air quality and reduce polluting emissions, dangerous for us and the environment.
