Unlucky Rallye de Monte-Carlo for Brc

Basso and Scattolin forced to retire

The 85th Monte-Carlo Rallye , valid as first race in WRC2 2017, ends before the time for Brc. In spite of a good race pace, Giandomenico Basso and Simone Scattolin, who did the fifth class time in "Bayons" and "Aspres les Corps" stages, and fourth in "Legers les Melezes" one, had to raise “ white flag “ and finish the spectacular Monaco’s competition.

Cause for the moment, unknown reasons, the engine, due to service belt’s  problems, has overheated. BRC engineers decided, at the end of Special Stage 5, during the transfer to Gap, to stop the Ford Fiesta R5 race. The team had to take this decision in order to permit data analysis  and avoid to further damages.

Giandomenico Basso says: "What a pity! This Monte-Carlo has been unlucky and is not finished as we would like. Due to critical conditions, route’s  pitfalls and the impossibility to do specific tests for such a difficult event, we started with the intention to do a safety race. In spite the hitch in the stage nr. 3, we were going well, times were good. We were getting the right feeling with the changing situations of the route  and with the many grip variables. The team did a great job to try to improve the right set-up to allow me to have more confidence with the car. Thank you to the team and to all people who supported me in this race that is, once again, the most difficult , complete and charming one.
